Did you ever get your motorcycle endorsement? The MSF course in PA is free for PA residents.

Also, on your post about getting the scooter from last year, you mentioned it isn’t “highway legal” because it’s only 125cc. I’m unaware of any PA or federal regulations which prohibit a 125cc scooter or motorcycle from using highways, even interstates...?

They are filled up as soon as they’re announced. I’m going to take the test on my own, then take the level two MSF class, which is usually less full. I do want to take the MSF to get the knowledge and skills, but I may as well get the license if I can while I wait.

Don’t quote me on this, because it looks like Pennsylvania’s laws in this regard are a bit of a mess, but I think it boils down to:

Motorized pedalcycles (50 cc max, 1.5 hp max, automatic transmission, has pedals, and 25 mph max design speed) are forbidden from limited access highways.

Motor-driven cycles (5 hp max) and motorcycles (over 5 hp) are not forbidden from them.

And, finding a random interstate entrance in BFE Pennsylvania (on I-80), the only posted sign appears to be “MOTOR VEHICLES ONLY” - so, basically, if you’re not a motorized pedalcycle, you’re good to go.

I don’t have any 125cc bikes, I was referring to a post that vdub_nut made last year where he said that 125cc scooters are not highway legal, which is untrue.

Yeah, that’s what my research found as well. So a 125cc scooter IS highway legal, at least in Pennsylvania.

125cc bikes CANNOT go on highways. I know people who have been fined for sneaking onto the Schuylkill for an exit or two, and some of those signs do specify “over 125cc”, not just the generic “Motor Vehicles Only”

I’d like to see a photo of said signs. I’ve been on the Skuylkill Expressway, never seen any. Nowhere in the Pennsylvania motor vehicle code does a prohibition against 125cc motorcycles/scooters exist for highway use. And if you know people who were fined, I’d love to know the section under which they were cited.
